Dear River Runners,
Earlier this month, our very own Daniel and Bodie Hilleke represented Salmon River Adventure Company at the Junior Freestyle Kayaking National Championships in Bryson City, North Carolina — and they absolutely crushed it! Competing among some of the best young paddlers in the country, both of them showcased incredible skill, heart, and sportsmanship. We couldn’t be prouder of these two and all the hard work they’ve put into their training.
But what really stands out isn’t just the competition — it’s the community.
Over and over, I am floored by the kindness of this kayaking community. I continue to hear the same thing from other paddlers: “Kayaking brings people together and creates deep, lasting friendships.” Maybe it’s because when you’re on the river, you have to trust each other — you learn to read the water together, to look out for one another, to celebrate every victory (and laugh off the swims). Or maybe it’s because time on the river strips away all the ego and distraction, leaving behind only the joy of being fully present with friends who share your passion.
Whatever it is, there’s something truly magical about the friendships formed on the water. They’re lifelong, rooted in shared experience and adventure — the kind that stay strong no matter where the current takes you next.
At Salmon River Adventure Company, that spirit of connection is what we’re all about. Whether it’s competing at Nationals or paddling your local stretch of river, it’s the friendships, laughter, and shared adventure that make it so special.
Congrats, Daniel and Bodie — we’re so proud of you! You’re an inspiration to our team, our guests, and every young paddler chasing their own adventure.
