Day Rafting FAQs

What is the whitewater like?

The Salmon River offers Class I–III rapids—perfect for beginners and seasoned adventurers.

What should I bring?

  • Water bottle
  • Towel & dry clothes for after the trip
  • Sunscreen
  • Any necessary medications (e.g., EpiPen)

How many people fit in a raft?

Usually 6-8 paddlers + 1 guide per raft. We’ll try to keep your group together if possible.

Will my group be split up?

We do our best to keep groups together, but final raft assignments depend on group sizes and bookings.

Do I need to bring a life jacket?

No. We provide all required safety equipment.

Are there age restrictions?

Yes, for whitewater rafting the minimum age is 6+, depending on water levels. For Scenic Trips, the minimum age is 4+.

Can I bring my phone, keys, or wallet?

We recommend leaving valuables in your car. If you must bring them, your guide can store them in a group dry bag.

Can I go if it rains?

Yes! Trips run rain or shine unless unsafe conditions arise—in which case we’ll contact you.

Can I participate if I have a medical condition or disability?

Yes, with precautions. Please inform us ahead of time and bring all required medications. Contact us in advance for special accommodations.

Do you allow alcohol?

No. Guests under the influence may not participate.

Multi-Day Trip FAQs

What should I pack?

  • Sleeping bag & pillow
  • Swimwear, synthetic clothing, towel
  • Headlamp, sunscreen, bug spray
  • Rain jacket, closed-toe shoes
  • Dry bags or plastic-lined duffels
  • Personal toiletries

Are meals included?

Yes. Multi-day trips include meals from lunch on Day 1 through lunch on the final day. Dietary needs? Email us at adventure@salmonwhitewater.com at least 2 weeks in advance.

Is there wildlife?

Yes—this is wild Idaho. Rattlesnakes are rare but present.

Kayak Course FAQs

What whitewater levels are taught?

Courses cover Class I–III depending on your skill level. Our guides teach everything from basic strokes to advanced whitewater navigation.

Do you rent kayaks or gear?

Yes! We offer hard-shell kayaks, inflatable kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards.

Do I need to bring my own life jacket or helmet?

No. All necessary safety gear is provided.

What should I wear?

  • Quick-dry layers (no cotton)
  • River shoes or old sneakers
  • Sun hat & sunglasses with a strap
  • Rain jacket depending on the weather

Are there age limits?

  • Whitewater Kayaking: 12+ (for courses). For private kayak instruction, please call if you have a child younger than 12 so that we can discuss options.
  • Inflatable Kayak/SUP: Varies by water levels—please inquire

Can I participate with a medical condition or disability?

Yes. Let us know in advance so we can help accommodate you safely.

Do you offer group discounts or packages?

Yes! Discounts available for multi-course bookings or groups of 8+. Contact us for options.

Lodging & Camp FAQs

Do you offer lodging or camping?

Yes! We have Deluxe tents that will accommodate 4-6 people, Safari Tents that accommodate 1-2 people, and Basic Tents that accommodate 1-3 people.

What are the lodging check-in/out policies?

Check in is at 4 PM and Check out 10 AM. Guests may arrive early or leave late with prior approval.

What amenities are available onsite?

What are the quiet hours?

10 PM to 7 AM daily.

Is there cell service or Wi-Fi?

No. Cell reception is available 12 miles away in North Fork, ID. We do have a landline for emergencies.

Do you allow pets?

Only ADA-compliant service animals are permitted. Must be declared at check-in. Additional cleaning/damage fees may apply.

Can I smoke at camp?

No. SRAC is a non-smoking facility. Deodorizing/cleaning charges may apply for violations.

Do kids need to be supervised?

Yes.

  • Under 12: Must be supervised at all times
  • 6+: May raft with a guide
  • 12+: May kayak with a guide
  • Youth groups: 2 adult leaders per 12 kids recommended

Are meals available on-site?

Yes! The Eddy Restaurant serves local, organic meals at 8 AM, 12 PM, and 6 PM. Coffee/tea ready by 7 AM. No guest food allowed at camp due to wildlife (exceptions for small sealed snacks can be arranged).

What if I have food allergies or dietary restrictions?

Email advenure@salmonwhitewater.com at least 2 weeks in advance. We try to accommodate all requests, but for severe allergies (e.g. anaphylaxis), bring your own EpiPens and contact us for a safety plan.

What’s the lodging deposit/damage policy?

By booking, you accept full financial responsibility for damages, missing items, or cleaning needs resulting from your stay.

Is there fire danger?

Yes. Fires are only allowed in our designated pit with prior approval. No fireworks permitted.

Can I arrive early or stay late?

Yes, with advance notice. Please contact us to coordinate.

Is there wildlife?

Yes—this is wild Idaho. No food in tents. Follow posted wildlife and safety protocols. Rattlesnakes are rare but present.

How do we get to camp?

Our base camp is across the river. Staff will ferry you and your gear via raft—gear will likely get wet, so pack accordingly. No crossings after 9 PM.

What activities are available at camp?

  • Frisbee golf
  • Cornhole, slackline, horseshoes
  • Board games
  • White sand beach for swimming or relaxing
