Future River Runners - 7 Day
With the Performance Kayaking Program, our goal is to provide a safe learning environment, to create the next generation of paddlers, and provide the foundation for whitewater success! We believe that through this experience, students will walk away feeling more confident in all aspects of their lives.
What they Learn: Students aged 12 and up will learn the fundamentals of whitewater; properly fitting your boat, catching eddies, paddling strokes, river safety, wet exiting, rolling techniques, how to “read” the river, etc. Each day the students will spend a morning and afternoon session on the water honing their skills. In the evenings, we will review performance by looking at videos from the day, and focus on team building though various games and activities.
Location: Our location on the Wild and Scenic Salmon River is the perfect location to learn to paddle. With flows that rival the Colorado River, the Salmon offers some of the best whitewater in the country for developing your whitewater skills. We have access to 45 miles of various Class I-III whitewater. The friendly characteristic rapids of the Salmon, finishing in a deep pool of water, allow for a safe place to pull it together before the next rapid.
Accomodations: Surrounded by the Salmon Challis National Forest on 3 sides, our 23-acre hidden paradise sits directly on the banks of the Salmon River. All of our students will stay in canvas wall tents with cots. The recently remodeled Bath and Shower House is nearby. All meals will be prepared by a professional chef and we source as much local and organic food as possible. We do have a Trading Post on site where students can purchase needed items in case they lose or forget something. *Please be sure to let us know if you have any special dietary restrictions.
Staff: We take our staff training very seriously. Each year our enthusiastic guides go through extensive training to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience here at the Salmon River Adventure Company. Our passionate, professional river guides each go through a specialized week-long training, prior to each summer season. All guides will at a minimum, have a Wilderness First Aid certification (including CPR) and swift water rescue training. They are also required to complete a background check, Safe Sport, and a Head’s Up Concussion Training. Our Kayak Instructors are certified through the ACA (American Canoe Association) Kayak Instructor program. We have a 1 guide to 4 student-ratio. Our team is passionate about whitewater and truly enjoy time with the students on the water.
