Beginner Kayaking Course
This all-inclusive course is designed to kick start a lifetime of kayaking. After a delicious breakfast at base camp each morning, our expert guides will build each day of instruction around your developing kayaking skills. With a focus on the fundamentals of kayaking (properly fitting your boat, catching eddies, paddling strokes, river safety, wet exiting, rolling techniques, how to “read” the river, etc.) each day’s morning and afternoon river sessions will improve your technique and confidence. Video analysis throughout the training deepen your learning and understanding. Our stretch of the Salmon River has all the water levels to perfectly meet your progression. Return to camp each evening for a hot shower and dinner at the Eddy, our on-site restaurant. End your day as you like – relaxing with a book, hiking a trail out of camp, or play a round of disc golf. With the support and instruction from our top notch guides, you will depart a river runner for life!

I am beaming with joy after my experience with SRAC. They truly are the best. It can be incredibly intimidating to try something new, but once I got there, they made me feel so comfortable and like I was part of the family. I did the 4 day beginner kayaking course and Luke and Oz were AMAZING instructors. I went from lake kayaking in a Costco kayak to feeling equipped for river adventures and class III rapids. I came away with so much, and through much patience from Luke and Oz, I successfully rolled! I am incredibly grateful for this experience and all the kind staff I met. What a sweet find
What a sweet find! 4 days of kayak training tailored to our individual goals was just what we wanted. We loved the combination of classroom, pool, and river time. We learned a lot and even managed a roll. It’s a great location; it’s beautiful, equipped with all of the essentials, has lots of wildlife, and has plenty of fun river features. Best, though, was that it’s a family-run business and everyone was friendly and personable. One fun note is that this used to be Boy Scout high adventure base and we’ve been Scouting leaders for years. We’d highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for a great kayaking adventure, including Scouting troops! – Cara
Watching the eagles soar over the Salmon river was magical
Polly writes on the website “ we all share a common love for the river and want to share it with you”. We found this to be 100% true. Awesome experience for our family of 4 from Australia (mix of experienced white water kayakers and first time on river for the teens). Jasons instruction was perfect; confidence building professional approach that was tailored to our groups diverse whitewater experience. What really makes this place a standout is the wonderful team Polly and Tommy have brought together, so welcoming and open (Highly skilled passionate river people AND lovely human beings). We all enjoyed our river-time and went home very relaxed and motivated do more with our skills. Watching the eagles soar over the Salmon river was magical (Quite telling I didn’t reach for my phone to scroll for 3 days). Highly recommend for first timers and more experienced kayakers with goals to take their kayaking further. Thank you! We wish we could of stayed longer. It was just what our family needed.
