Weather can change quickly in river canyons, so packing layers is essential.
This is an active, participatory outdoor adventure. Guests should be in good physical condition and exercising regularly prior to their trip. Please let us know as soon as possible if you have any physical limitations. Guests over 250 pounds should call our office to discuss accommodations.
Yes. For everyone’s safety, all guests are required to listen to our Whitewater Safety briefing before we depart for their trip.
Each participant must complete all required trip forms within two weeks of booking. A link to the online forms will be included in your confirmation email.
- If you prefer paper forms, let us know right away.
- If your trip is booked within 60 days of departure, forms must be completed immediately so we can properly plan.
If a cancellation occurs more than 90 days before your trip, your deposit remains non-refundable but may be credited toward a future booking within one year of the original trip date.
Cancellations made within 90 days of arrival are not eligible for refunds or credits.
If SRAC must cancel due to weather, river conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances, we will work with you to reschedule or issue a full credit toward a future trip.
Cancellation policies may differ for charter or private groups—please refer to your confirmation email for details.
We are unable to make exceptions for weather, wildfire smoke, personal emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances. We strongly recommend purchasing travel protection.
Yes, but please be aware:
- There is no cell service on the river
- Water damage is always a risk, even in dry bags
- We recommend a waterproof phone case
Please use headphones if listening to music. Drones are not allowed and are typically prohibited on public and federal lands.
No. We do not provide power for charging electronics or medical devices. If needed, bring:
- Spare batteries
- Portable power banks
- Small, rugged solar chargers (no larger than 12” x 12”)
Sun exposure in river canyons can be limited, especially at camp.
Yes, but you must notify us in advance with details about your machine, batteries, and protective case. You are responsible for bringing sufficient battery power for each night of the trip. While we can help transport the device, we cannot guarantee protection from water or impact damage—extra protective cases are strongly recommended.
Communication is very limited once on the river. Cell service is generally unavailable. Our guides carry satellite communication devices for emergencies only.
If someone needs to reach you due to an emergency at home, they should call our office. Messages may take several days to reach you, so we recommend defining clearly what constitutes an emergency before your trip.
Yes. The groover is placed away from camp and often screened by natural features. A simple “key” system ensures privacy—if the paddle is across the trail the groover is occupied. It may take some getting used to, but the views are unbeatable.
Smoking or vaping is allowed only away from the group and downwind of others. Please be respectful of fellow guests and guides.
No. Marijuana use is illegal on federal lands, including both medicinal and recreational use. Please do not bring cannabis on your trip.
No. Guides do not carry firearms, and guests are asked to leave all firearms at home or secured in their vehicles.
Check the forecast for North Fork, Idaho and McCall, Idaho about one week before your trip. Be prepared for a wide range of temperatures and conditions—layers are key.
Even if you’re not expecting your period, come prepared. Bring zip-close bags for storing products during the day. Used items can be disposed of in trash at lunch stops or camp. We carry some emergency supplies on most trips.
We strongly recommend leaving valuables at home. For items like wallets, phones, or keys, store them in zip-close bags at the bottom of your waterproof bag.
No. Drones are not permitted on our trips.
Please see our attached packing list for this trip. It’s important that you have the right clothing and are prepared for this wilderness river trip.
Yes. Multi-day trips include meals from lunch on Day 1 through lunch on the final day.

Yes—this is wild Idaho. Rattlesnakes are rare but present.
Boise, Idaho; Idaho Falls, Idaho, or Missoula, Montana. From Boise, you can take a short flight (45 min) with McCall/Salmon Air or rent a car to drive to Salmon. From Idaho Falls or Missoula, you will need to rent a car and drive to Salmon.
By Car:
- Boise to Salmon ~ 5 hours
- Idaho Falls to Salmon ~ 3 hours
- Missoula to Salmon ~ 3 hours.
With your trip purchase, we supply 3-4 man tents and sleep two people in them. We have sleeping pads for you to use, and sleeping bags for rent but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. We have a larger “family size” tent available to rent as well.
